question: thin places

Just saw this on someone else's blog:

'thin places': the spirituality of the celts of ancient britain taught that certain locations/ events were 'thin places', where the division between heaven and earth was said to be at its narrowest.

I think I know a few of these. Have you encountered any? Where/when?

I've always said 'At times like this, life is pure joy' when referring to what you call a "thin place."
Now, to remember those moments?
Every moment connected to the pregnancy, and ultimate birth, then rearing of my two boys.
Then, most of the things they did prior to becoming teenagers. Still they have their wonderful moments and I wouldn't change one iota of my life if I had to do it over again just to have those thin spots.
The milestone of my GED, then my first, second and third college degrees were thin too since I was a high school drop out. I never wanted to drop out, really. I wanted to achieve something greater.
I'm still not done.
Then there was your house warming party...that was pretty thin too.
You've got GREAT, "Thin" friends. :)

I think, every sea shore anywhere around the world is a "thin place"...
All that life-soaked water and bright sand!

And yes, every happy moment is decidedly a "thin place". :)

When I was on the Big Island of Hawaii, watching an active volcano pouring molten lava into the sea, I was at one of the "thinnest places" I'd ever been. It was like watching the goddess Pele' giving birth to the planet earth.

Well, I don't really believe in "thin" places - I think that there are events/times in our lives where we feel closer emotionally to the divine, and perhaps certain places bring out those feelings in people. I just don't think there's anything supernatural to it.

That said, when I was a child there was one foggy night that felt magical. We were returning from my grandparents and all of the sudden shafts of colored lights just started forming everywhere. It was probably the Northern Lights breaking through the fog, but I'll never know. I just felt like it was out of this world. My parents were convinced it was the end of the world, and as soon as we got home they went in and started praying. I went out to the field behind the house and I jumped and danced from one colored beam to the next - swirls of individual yellows and reds and greens and blues, descrete from each other, coming and going randomly. I felt as light as air and filled with possibilities.

Everyone else stayed in and prayed, but I danced. To me it was magic, to them it was dreadful. Whatever it was, it was unique to that night. Would you call that a thin place experience?
